Seven years after a fire in the sugar cane field, traces of which can be seen in aerial photographs taken by the IGN in 2013, the ground continues to bear the scars. The cane roots, which burned in the soil, left a layer of white ash interspersed with charcoal and nodules of baked clay, and recent ploughing has mixed the remains of the ash into the arable soil.
