This wide area of fire strongly rubified the top of the palaeosol revealed by recent ploughing to a thickness of ten or so centimetres. It covers a surface area of at least 15 m2. This does not appear to have been caused by the fire of 2013. Its location at the top of the palaeosol suggests it dates from a relatively early period. It is tempting to interpret this as the remains of a very large area of fire made preparatory to its cultivation when the Bois Rouge sugar processing plant was first built. However, the lack of finds makes it impossible to claim this with any certainty.
