A research project initiated by the regional archaeology service and regional inventory service in 2018 made LiDAR technology available to address archaeological challenges in the Hauts region of the island. A complete survey of the Maïdo and the Mafate cirque identified topographical anomalies and provided pointers for field surveys. This 3D animation provides a comprehensive reconstruction of the topography of Mafate.
