Arsenal of Saint-Denis, 1845

Laboria map

The arsenal, completed in 1863, was responsible for the upkeep of the island’s coastal batteries. It was also used to store military equipment. The façade faces the mountain rather than the sea; this is explained by the location of the arsenal battery to the north of the building. The arsenal lost its military function around 1888.
