The Great Umayyad Mosque in The Book of Felicity by Muhammad ibn Amir Hasan al-Su'udi.
This treatise on astronomy and fortune-telling commissioned by the Ottoman Sultan Murad III (1574-1595) for his daughter, and painted by the master Ustad Osman, features the wonders of creation, and among them, the Umayyad Mosque, seen from the outside. This symbolic representation is not an accurate depiction of how the mosque looked at this time. It does, however, reveal its importance in the collective imagination.
