The Great Umayyad Mosque is divided into two parts: the prayer hall and the courtyard. This photograph was taken on the east side of the central aisle of the prayer hall. The reliquary of St John the Baptist stands beneath the elevation of the colonnade. Towards the end, the arcading is interrupted by the transept aisle leading to the central mihrab. Lucien Roy, 1911.
