These images show excavations in Iraq, between the late 1920s and the early 1930s. They are attributed to Reginald Campbell Thompson (1876-1941), a British Assyriologist, epigrapher and archaeologist who excavated sites in Iraq as early as 1904. He directed the excavations and focused on the site of the palace of Ashurbanipal and a temple to the goddess Ishtar. Campbell Thompson was interested in the people who worked with him, especially their culture. The excavation work is seen in context, including life on site, and the process of copying inscriptions, washing the fragments, etc.
