Flint core knapped during the later Azilian period, around 11,000 BCE, at Closeau (Hauts-de-Seine)

The block has been almost entirely refitted. On the surface we can see part of the “cortex”, or natural gangue. Among the knapped pieces we can see some very thick and uneven blades. They have been produced using a very simplified method of knapping, whose objective was not the long, slim and even blades of the Late Magdalenian.
