The Magdalenian occupation at Étiolles-La Fontaine, Soulier

The Magdalenian site that has been excavated on the left bank of the Ruisseau des Hauldres is less well preserved than that on the right. Here, the knapped flint has acquired a white patina and some has risen upwards. The presence of hearths is indicated by a cluster of heated stones. However, the base of the hearth, used for the fire, has been washed away and is no longer visible. It is probable that on this bank the archaeological remains were not covered by silt from flooding as quickly as the structures on the opposite bank, and were therefore less well protected.
