Group of blades, isolated at the edge of structure W11 at Étiolles

Fagot de lames isolé en marge de l’habitation W11 à Étiolles

It is strange to find these large blades, between 20 and 25 cm long and knapped from one block, left in this parallel arrangement. It is possible that they were being stored here, but if so, why? Alternatively, they may have been accidentally left behind when the Magdalenians left Étiolles. Perhaps someone simply forgot to pick up the pouch, made from a perishable material, in which the instruments were to be carried while travelling. Empty spaces in refits and the fact that blades have been found at Étiolles made from flint from 50 to 80 km away confirm that the Magdalenians took flint with them when they moved.
