Since the beginning of the excavations at Étiolles, the team has kept records beyond the usual plans and photographs of habitats and their structures. Previously, we made casts using elastomers, which enabled us to create the exhibit showing habitation U5 displayed at the musée de Préhistoire d’Île-de-France in Nemours (Seine-et-Marne). Today, 3D imaging is used, in particular photogrammetry. Photogrammetry is likely to become the main tool for surveying excavations, as the exact location of objects can be calculated on digital models if they are georeferenced. It will also be possible to reproduce structures using 3D printing.
