This is a Nucella lapillus, or Atlantic dogwinkle, found on the Atlantic coast. This, along with the remains of mussels found in structure D71 of the same locus 2, proves that the Magdalenians made acquisitions over long distances, probably in exchanges between tribes. This close-up using a binocular microscope shows an intentional heavy abrasion that resulted in the shell’s perforation, either for it to be threaded onto jewellery or sewn onto an item of clothing. Its wear may be the consequence of the adornment rubbing against the body as it was being worn.
