Flint flake in the form of an animal

Éclat de silex en forme d'animal découvert sur le campement paléolithique d'Étiolles
5715

Discovered at the edge of habitation Q31 at Étiolles, this large fragment has been retouched, which is unusual. Use-wear analysis has identified no use for this object. It does not conform to the artistic style of its time, but, being in the form of an animal, does reflect the significance of animals in the Magdalenian imagination. It is difficult to know if this piece had some importance or if it was simply an example of play.
