The engraved pebble from Étiolles was found in the stones surrounding the hearth at level D71-1, underneath the first circle of large stone slabs.
After D71-1 had been abandoned, a horse’s neck was left inside the circle of stones surrounding the hearth. This mysterious gesture, episode “D71-0”, may have had either symbolic or ritualistic significance.
