The horse’s neck found above hearth D71 consisted of the first five vertebrae. When they were buried, these bones, found together in an anatomically correct position, must still have been held together by the flesh of the animal, which hadn’t been consumed. This apparent “waste” reinforces the idea that this was some kind of ritual.
