Located in an unstable region away from the main tourist routes, Doubiyeh castle was studied by a French archaeological mission (2011-2016) under the direction of Cyril Yovitchitch. Introducing technologies such as photogrammetry and 3D modelling, the mission took a markedly different approach to the castle. British researchers had been the last to study the site in the late 19^th century.
