The cutting of the Combe d’Arc by the Ardèche created the Pont d’Arc natural arch and led to the abandonment of the old Ardèche bed. The opening of the Chauvet-Pont d’Arc cave is in one of the limestone escarpments of the Cirque d’Estre (to the left in the picture).
