Like a promontory, the Horses Panel marks the entrance to the Skull Chamber. On this flat surface of around 4 m2 are grouped 21 figures, essentially black drawings, but also two engravings at a height of 2.5 m, out of the reach of a standing adult, and a small rhinoceros painted in red. The general structure of the composition is centred around a diagonal marked by the alignment of the horses' muzzles. This group – the most spectacular – was drawn last, after the “fighting” rhinoceros and the aurochs.
