The entrance to the gorges of Ardèche is marked by a large arch, the Pont d’Arc. This natural monument is a major landmark in the area, which did not escape the attention of Palaeolithic men, just as they noticed the other landmarks: the abandoned meander and the plateau crossing the Cirque d’Estre.
