The Kassite people may have originated in the Zagros Mountains. The Kassites appeared in Babylon in the 18^th century BCE. Kassite kings ruled Babylon between the mid-2^nd millennium - after the Hittites took Babylon in 1595, ending the Hammurabi dynasty - and the 12^th century BCE. They controlled all Lower Mesopotamia, then called Karduniaš.
